5 Days Tour: Agadir – Tafraout – Tissint – Erg Chegaga – Ouarzazate – Agadir

After an early breakfast at your hotel in Agadir, begin your adventure toward the heart of the Anti-Atlas Mountains, one of Morocco’s most beautiful and least explored regions. The drive takes you through dramatic landscapes via Aït Baha or the historic village of Tizourgane, where ancient fortified granaries stand proudly on the hilltops. As you ascend into the mountains, the scenery changes from coastal plains to surreal granite rock formations and wide open valleys dotted with almond and argan trees.

Upon arrival in Tafraout, you will visit the famous Painted Rocks, a unique natural art installation where massive boulders are painted in bright blue, pink, and red colors, creating a stunning contrast with the surrounding desert landscape. Continue to the peaceful Ameln Valley, home to traditional Berber villages built from stone and clay, where local families maintain a simple and authentic mountain lifestyle. After breakfast, leave Tafraout and continue deeper into southern Morocco through remote mountain roads toward Igherm and Tata, two traditional fortified towns that once served as important caravan trading stops. The road offers breathtaking views of rocky plateaus, dry riverbeds, and scattered palm oases, giving you a real sense of the vastness and silence of the Moroccan desert regions.

Arriving in Tissint, one of the most beautiful hidden oases in Morocco, you will explore the lush palm groves nourished by natural springs. This area is famous for its small waterfalls, traditional irrigation channels, and fertile gardens growing dates, figs, and pomegranates. In the afternoon, discover the mystical volcanic and rocky landscapes surrounding Tissint, shaped by ancient geological activity over thousands of years.

After breakfast, your journey leads you toward one of the most remote and spectacular desert regions of Morocco: Erg Chegaga. You will drive through the desert gateway town of Foum Zguid, then cross stretches of the legendary Lake Iriki, a vast dry salt lake that once held water centuries ago. The landscape here is wild and untouched, with endless stone deserts, fossil fields, and acacia trees standing alone against the horizon.

By afternoon, you will reach the impressive Erg Chegaga dunes, the largest and wildest sand dunes in southern Morocco. You will enjoy a peaceful camel ride across the golden dunes, following the traditional paths of Saharan nomads. As the sun sets, the dunes change color from gold to deep orange and purple, creating a magical atmosphere. In the evening, enjoy a traditional Berber dinner under the starlit sky, followed by live drum music around the campfire.

Wake up early to witness the unforgettable sunrise over the dunes, a peaceful and silent moment in the heart of the Sahara. After breakfast at the camp, depart the desert by 4x4 off-road across the dry bed of Lake Iriki toward Foum Zguid. This adventurous drive offers spectacular views of endless desert horizons and rugged mountain backdrops.

Continue the journey to Taznakht, a town famous throughout Morocco for its handmade Berber carpets and rugs, where you may visit a local cooperative to see traditional weaving techniques. Later, arrive in Ouarzazate, known as the “Hollywood of Morocco” due to its famous film studios and desert landscapes used in many international movies.

After breakfast, start your scenic return journey to Agadir through the breathtaking landscapes of the Anti-Atlas Mountains. Pass through Taznakht, Taliouine (the capital of Moroccan saffron, where you may stop to learn about saffron cultivation), and the historic city of Taroudant, often called “Little Marrakech” because of its impressive ramparts and lively souks.

Along the way, enjoy multiple photo stops overlooking river valleys, traditional Berber villages, and ancient kasbahs built from reddish earth. By evening, arrive back in Agadir and transfer to your hotel or the airport, marking the end of this unforgettable desert and mountain adventure.
